Holi marks the withdrawal of winter with the onset of spring. Indians love to get drenched in the bright hues of Holi and share special moments of happiness together. The festival is characterized by beautiful shades, delicious sweets and flavourful thandai (a chilled drink made up of milk and nuts).

Imagine a dark world without the blessing of colours. Scared? You ought to be. God has bestowed the elegance of colours to beautify his creations in the world. Starting from the pristine shades of rainbow to the soothing reflections of a sun shimmered sea, colours always amaze our eyes with the impact of beauty. To highlight the significance of shades in our life, let me explain you with a simple example. A simple sketch when receives the splash of colours, it becomes even more artistic and beautiful. Different shades have got different implications and Holi is just a celebration to value the importance of hues in our life.

It’s quite obvious that you are very excited to celebrate this festival with a vibrant mix of shades but it is important to take care of your beauty as colours can create havoc on your delicate skin and hair. Read on to know the various ways of protecting your skin and hair from the harmful effects of Holi colours.

1.    No matter whether the colours are in liquid or powder state make sure to choose the herbal ones.

2.    Always oil your hair to offer it a protective sheath against the influence of chemicals. For best results, after oiling your hair wrap it with a hot water soaked towel. This will prevent the colours from getting settled on your scalp. Use a blend of hibiscus and rosemary oils to massage your scalp.

3.    Cover your body as much as you can to prevent the staining of colours.

4.    Before playing with the shades of happiness, it is advised to massage your body with a choice of coconut, jojoba or olive oil.

5.    Don’t delay in taking bath once the celebration gets over. If you get an itching sensation, don’t rub those areas as it will only enhance your problem.

Holi is celebrated to signify the win of good over the evil. Apart from this traditional significance, Holi is also played to shed off the lethargy and fatigue of winter and bring in the activeness and vibrancy of spring.
