As age creeps in and gravity takes its toll,
the fashions which we embraced may not be as relaxed or as tolerant as they
once were. As our bodies endure to change, few of us linger to squeeze into the
very same clothes, whereas others start to accept the truth that those faux pas
fashions which we swore we would not once wear, really aren’t just stereotype
of aging we believed they were in our 20’s. Luckily there are some stress-free
ways to look younger without going overboard says Image Consultant Manisha
Srivastava.
Dress Your Size – Clothes that are too
large will make you look shabby, while clothes that are too small will make the
extra pounds you may be trying to hide, show. Buy items which fit the major
part of your body then have them changed to fit the smaller areas.
Dress age aptly – While the stomach and
legs may still look wow, but flaunting them in mini-skirts and open midriffs
will lure attention to your age. Though chic dressing is one sure way to look
younger, dressing like a teenager will have the contradictory effect. Draw attention to your best features with
elegance instead of flaunt.
Synchronise Your Footwear – Open- toed
shoes and sandals are worn bare foot or with sandal-foot hosiery, never with
socks. As the day passes on, so does the size of the feet. To find your best fit, style and favourite
level of comfort, shop for shoes in the afternoon or the evening.
Avoid all Extremes – Subtle and quirky
accessories appear sugary and girlish, while enormously large pieces can overwhelm.
Choose accessories in contemporary styles scaled to your figure size. When in
doubt about magnitude, safely pick medium.
Too many accoutrements look cluttered. Matchless
metals are clumsy and distracting. Accessories look best when synchronised but
not matching. Strategically place accessories to draw attention away from perplexing
areas by focusing attention to one area such as the face with earrings, a
necklace or a pretty scarf.
Out the elastic, in the Lycra – Although
elastic and pleats may be completed for comfort they may not be the most gratifying
or trendy. If cosy is the key, opt for flat designs in quality fabrics with a trace
of Lycra.
It’s all in the heel - A slight lift will
flatter the leg and enhance polish to an outfit. A lot of lift will add heaviness
and discomfort. No lift can appear frumpy and awkward. When in doubt a 1 – 2
inch heel can give you the look without the annoyance.
Whether we accept it or not, the selections
we make will have an impression on how we are seen and eventually how we will
feel. Aging doesn’t have to mean old-fashioned or ancient. Balancing cosiness
with style will ensure that you appear young and fashionable.
